The SUAS (Student Unmanned Aerial Systems) competition team is focused on exposing students to different challenges in research lab setting. Students will develop a proactive mindset, technical experience, and the ability to work well as a part of a team. The project exposes students to challenging missions to meet the requirements of the competition in a professional setting. This type of experience helps students improve their critical thinking and communication skills.
The SUAS Competition will take place at St. Mary's Regional Airport in Maryland from June 20-22, 2023. The competition has two major elements: the Technical Design and Flight Readiness Review Presentation, and the Mission Demonstration. The presentation details a team’s UAS design and the team’s testing and preparedness, and the demonstration simulates a mission in which the UAS and team is evaluated. The mission consists of autonomous flight, obstacle avoidance, object detection, and air drop.
The SLU SUAS Team has a variety of costs they hope to cover through this crowdfunding campaign.
