Saint Louis Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team
Each year, Saint Louis Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (SLUAV) competes in the annual Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) Competition which is held by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). This competition is designed to be a systems type and interdisciplinary competition, and is designed to foster collaboration between various disciplines and broaden our engineering/science thought process.
The tasks for the competition covers four complex challenge. The first is autonomous flight of a heavier than air Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The next is the capture of aerial images from an onboard camera and the automatic detection, classification and localization of targets within the image. The third challenge involves transmitting the target images to the judges server from our UAV. The fourth and final challenge is the most exciting; dropping an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) from our UAV, from a height of approximately 100-150ft onto a predefined target location! We are scored on how precise our drop is and how well the UGV drives itself autonomously to another target location, after the drop.
Our funding needs are as follows:
Competition Entrance Fee - $1,000
Travel Expenses - $1,500
Building Materials and Components - $500
Thank you for your help in sending us to the competition!
