For our project, we will be competing in SAE AeroDesign within the Micro Class category. The objective of design for Horizon is to design and build a lightweight, compact aircraft that can carry the most payload while maintaining the lowest empty weight. This aircraft must be deployed from a small package, and carry the most PVC pipes possible, all while weighing less than 10lbs. The AeroDesign competition takes place in March/April in Fort Worth, TX or Lakeland, FL and 85 teams will be competing at each site to have the lightest aircraft that can carry the most payload over a flight circuit of 1200 feet (150).
The Saint Louis University (SLU) Mission encourages and supports innovative scholarship and effective teaching. By having to design an aircraft around a restrictive set of requirements we are utilizing our education in an innovative way. This project will also allow us to have intellectual inquiries along the way which will improve our critical thinking for designs we will create for humanity in the future.
The goals that we hold for this competition are simple, we want to win. We want to put SLU on the national stage and show that Parks College is an entity of SLU that should be held in high regard. We want to stand as representatives of this University and put our academic & critical thinking abilities on full display in order to show our preparedness for the professional industry. We can only do this with your support. Thank you!
Funds will be used for tools and materials to build our aircraft, travel to the competetion, and professional membership fees assocatited with attending Aero Design.
